When Intuition Speaks, Should You Listen?

My intuition kicked in on a recent project while meeting with the painter. We were reviewing the living room and as I turned to the fireplace, my intuition told me “You should paint the bricks black to complement the new surround.” I contacted the client and she is thinking about it. Perhaps the question should be, should you listen to your interior designer’s intuition?  I’ve had  bricks painted white in past projects, but this one is calling for black. Below is the fireplace as is, along with photos of painted black fireplaces that just say WOW!

Oh, by the way, the walls are being painted a new color too.

The “Red and White” of it all.

I’m not talking about wine. It’s about how I got inspired to become an interior designer. Back in high school my friend Margie invited me to join her when she was baby sitting. We entered this luxorious condo and “WOW” was I impressed. Plush white carpeting welcomed you in. Hanging on the wall was this multi-level irregular shaped mirror that sparkled brillantly and as I turned to the right was the master bedroom. I was immediately drawn into the room. A modern splendor of red and white. There was a mixture of textures, plush white carpet, red lacquered dressers with red framed mirrors mounted above, and a white leather headboard. The bedding was a fluffy white down comforter. I loved the crispness and clarity.
As I stood there admiring and absorbing it all, I said to myself ” I could do this.” It was that simple. I was so moved by the beauty of it all. It stirred in me the direction my life would take. I don’t know if I ever told Margie but I’m greatful to a friend who wanted company and opened a door for me into a world that has given me the opportunity to design remarkable homes for remarkable people.
I dedicate this first blog post to my friend Margie. I hope heaven is as gorgeous, beautiful, and inspiring…………….. Here are some red and white rooms that I hope will inspire you too!
